This is my 6th year of IM racing and my first working with Mike Plumb. It was also the best of my triathlon life with Mike leading my way. I PR’d my Ironman time by 40 minutes at Ironman Canada. This was my follow up to a 9 min PR at IMCDA even with a terrible swim where I lost 8 minutes because of conditions! My crazy Ironman year concluded with a trip to Kona and the best triathlon experience of my life. He keeps me very busy, I train every day, but I was mentally and physically up for the challenge. I met Mike at IMCDA, and I got an understanding of the depth of knowledge he has for tri training and racing; not because he was overt but because he had a quiet confidence and gave just enough to let you know there was a lot in there. He has a great sense of humor and I believe he’s the only coach I’ve had who’s been willing to push me to do the volume I needed to succeed at IM racing. I ran 5 – 6 times per week for many months, with several 60+k weeks just for running! I didn’t do a lot of speed or threshold efforts, but the running he had me do led me to a 10k and a half marathon PR, PLUS a major breakthrough in Ironman racing at the ripe old age of 40. The best thing is, I didn’t get injured. I recommend him 110%, and if it matters, I’m a full time triathlon coach! Thanks Mike for the great year!I’m excited to see what we can accomplish in 2008!
